About Cambridgeshire Equine Assisted Learning Cambridgeshire Equine Assisted Learning (CEAL) is based at Cottenham near Cambridge and has been running since 2015. It offers sessions for children and young people who are finding school difficult or not attending traditional education. There are horses and ponies in an outdoor environment. The ‘classroom’ is a converted stable and there is an orchard to explore too. There is no riding involved. One of the learners has been working on a ‘duck-house’ project. He has built a duck house and fenced off an area for the ducks! This is all part of the learner-centred approach adopted by the staff at the centre. CEAL offers equine assisted learning mainly for children and young people who are excluded or close to exclusion from school. Sessions are tailored to meet the needs of each individual and the staff use a person-centred approach which enables each person to develop their own skills in their own way and at their own pace. |
