About EAQ Luccombe Equine Assisted Learning

EAQ Luccombe is an equine assisted learning centre based at Luccombe Riding School in the wonderful Dorset countryside near Milton Abbas. There is also a Riding for the Disabled (RDA) group operating from the same premises so there is an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to take part in ground-based equine assisted learning as well as therapeutic or traditional riding.

The centre is run by Henri Monier-Williams who began fostering after bringing up her own children. She has also spent 10 years in Asia working with underprivileged children, has taught riding and helped with the RDA. Henri is passionate about the work she does and equally passionate about the benefit that art and creative pursuits have on improving self esteem. Henri has completed her Level 4 Certificate in Equine Assisted Learning.

Equine assisted learning is a fantastic way for learners of all ages to increase their self-esteem, self-confidence and build resilience.  Everyone can benefit: children, young people, adults and the elderly.  EAQ Luccombe offers individual and group sessions with programmes that are tailor-made to meet individual needs.

A variety of activities are available alongside the equine assisted learning, with an art room where learners can indulge in painting, clay modelling, stonemasonry, jewellery making or anything else creative that is of interest.

There is a sensory garden where people can create their own areas and grow flowers, vegetables and fruit.

Apart from horses and ponies, EAQ Luccombe has a dog, chickens, rabbits and even a pet hedgehog. Everyone is encouraged to take part in looking after and handling the animals in a confident and safe manner. There is a wildlife pond to explore, dens to build, walks and of course helping and learning about the horses and other animals at the centre.

Taster sessions are on offer for you to come and meet the ponies, horses and other animals, enjoy some refreshments and of course meet Henri who runs the centre.

As with all EAQ centres, at EAQ Luccombe the sessions are facilitated using a non-judgmental approach which allows the learner to make decisions for themselves while in a safe and carefully supervised environment. Learners are supported to recognise and discuss their feelings, safe in the knowledge they will not be judged. There is help for children and young adults to learn how to voice their fears and frustrations, recognise and describe their own emotions and what triggers their change in mood and how to manage them in an appropriate and safe manner.
